RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd)
Active members of St. Martin de Porres are invited to register for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a religious formation for children aged 3-12 based on Montessori principles, scripture, and Catholic teaching. This approach began over 100 years ago with Maria Montessori, was developed by Sofia Cavaletti and Gianna Gobbi and many other collaborators beginning in the 1950's - and continues today to grow throughout the world. Its basis comes from close observation of children and their relgious needs.
The children will meet at Sacred Heart of Mary for a two-hour session each week in a carefully prepared room called an "atrium." Each atrium is set up for the unique needs of a specific "phase" of childhood:
Level I for children aged 3-6 years, Level II for 6-9 years, and Level III for 9-12 years.

Parent Centered Religious Education for Children
Children's Ministry is in the process of choosing a parent centered religious education program for children whose schedule does not permit an atrium session. More information is coming. However, parents are invited to choose this option and register. It will involve a home-based RE program with regular check-ins/help from a trained catechist.
