At St.
Martin's we strive to provide opportunities for all ages to continue to
grow. We hope to nourish the mind and soul in the things of God and to
support and sustain our families in Catholic belief. We
meet on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. We pray together
as one group, and then teachers will meet with their respective classes.
We emphasize Scripture, the protection of the Guardian Angels, Sacramentals,
and Liturgy. Children should attend Mass with their families. The
parents are the first teachers of the children; we are supportive of the
family. Children
in grades Pre-K- 5. We provide instruction using the
Faith and Life
series from Ignatius Press. We encourage and nurture the children's
prayer-life by visiting the Blessed Sacrament. Sacramental preparation
begins in September for the Sacraments of Penance, and First Holy Communion, is provided to children
in the Second Grade or as needed.
St.
Martin's provides preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation for those
in grades 6 through 12. A service project for the community, overnight
retreat, research of saints, prayer and journaling, and developing a sense
of the broader parish community are important parts of their learning
experiences. Parents and sponsors take part in affirming goodness, love
and correction. The second part of the year will be spent on the Life of
Jesus, applying what we learn to practical application in our lives. We
also support one another in developing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that
we have received. We provide
children's initiation into the sacraments for families converting to the
Catholic faith or for children who for some reason have been delayed in
their reception of the sacraments. All
children are invited to participate in our annual Christmas play performed
before the Children's Liturgy on Christmas Eve.
This
is for Middle School and High School youth who have been confirmed.
We learn about prayer, including meditations on the interior life and
virtue.
